hi,

Just got my first 3 points on my license in over 10 years and a £60 fine.

It was a manned camera apparently on the A361 (Westbound) Ashford, Barnstaple, 3th Dec. I though I knew the cameras on that road and also thought the limit was 60mph, but think there might be some bits 50mph. Anyone else caught that day?

so which is best for notifying me of these mobile ones as I can see the big yellow ones usually.

Snooper or TALEX, or something else?

Have you only just got the NIP through? If so then I am sure that you're in the clear. I always thought that if you hadn't been notified within 2 weeks of the date of offence then they can't do you?

Anyway, you may want to check out the legality of camera detectors. I am sure I heard something stating that they were going to be made illegal some time this year (already illegal on the continent). Have a check before spending out the bling.

Have a look here...

www.direct.gov.uk/TravelAndTransport/TrafficManagement/TrafficManagementArticles/fs/en?CONTENT_ID=10025598&chk=ndi8sL

...in the section headed "Speeding fines, endorsements, penalty points and disqualification" it states...

"If a vehicle is caught speeding or jumping a red light by a safety camera, the registered keeper must be sent a notice of intended prosecution within 14 days of the alleged offence."

...reading that you should get away with it.

Hurrah and a celebratory beerdrink

Thanks for that sixpackpert. Just rang them, it sems the dvla didn't have the updated records of the correct owner was. They say they sent it out to the keeper as listed by the DVLA within 14 days, and if they do that then I can still be prosecuted.

Based on this i was wondering if anyone could tell me whether or not the government managed to bring in legislation about the use of laser detection devices, i read this on PH a few months ago and never followed up to see what the law states as i want to get the RLD for my snopper S6

The problem with a laser detector is that it goes off when a laser shines on it i.e. when you have been zapped game over. Your only chance is if it detects laser scatter reflecting of another vehicle being targeted.
A sat nav with camera POIs is your best bet but you will then end up slowing down for empty laybys which are sometimes used for mobile cameras.

tending more and more to use crusie control to stick to the speed limit, problem then is that the drive becomes mundane and sort of relax a bit too much, somuch so that sometimes miss junctions.....

guess speed kills and so if have an accident it wont be due to speeding

Origin B2, best live detection and a good d/loadable data base too

you really need a jammer

which have probably just or are about to become illegal under the new act

by the time the origin b detector (or any other) goes off you've been pinged

do jammers work?

some say they do and I’ve seen you-tube film of them working but i've seen other tests on you-tube that showed that they didn't or were not as effective as the manufacturers claim

A jammers effectiveness is based on the install. At the end of the day they would not ban them if they did not work, quite the reverse could be said. The real problem starts if you have a jammer and it successfully fends off a police check, then you are up for perverting the course of justice and may find yourself with a prison sentance...

Worth it???

As for the fact that the DVLA had the wrong data you might want to check this out with www.pepipoo.com/

Yep but better that than caught,

I had a B2 and thought it was superb until I passed a camera van on a dual at 92...

Don't know how but I did not get an NIP just lucky I guess but it got me thinking how I really had no mobile warning and if the B2 lazer alert had gone off its only letting you know your NIP is in the post...

I replaced the B2 with an Indago which is fantastic and alerts for 'realistic' mobile sites (it would have warned me of the one I went through) the problem with the TomTom 'pocketGPSworld' data base is that its compiled by their sites users and it lists 2 mobile sites within about 1 mile of my house that I have never seen (or heard of) a mobile being there so I'd question the accuracy of their database,

But I've no complaints with the Snooper database so far, a bit more expensive but well worth it!

We fit laser parking aids, which some customers tell me have saved them from being zapped on numerous occasions, so yes, if installed properly, they work well!
