just bought a nice new tomtom one, and see it has a 'buddies' feature. I always though TVRs should have facility to locate other ones travelling nearby, to help with those wonderful impromptu meetings along the queens highways.. and now it's possible !

So. I'll look into it, assuming mny TVR owners have tomtom stuff. Could be fun !

Does anybody know anybody who has used the buddy feature? It has intrigued me since I've had a TomTom.

I've had a look at it, but not acutally managed to hook up with someone yet.
Bit of a long winded process from what I could see

looked into it a bit more.. not quite as fancy as I'd imagined. Looks like it updates data every few minutes so no good for high speed fun

Can someone enlighten me a bit more, like what does it do, or is supposed to do. (buddies that is)

loads of info on there, basically, you can see where your buddy is, if your meeting up etc, you can send text messages

I was hoping it would br realtime, or thereabouts. I suppose that would clobber one's phone bill though

does it not work in real time then, or do you have to keep requesting the position of your buddy

Thanks matt172 looks like it could cost a bit via GPRS, good if your network operator doesn't charge you for it.

Yep, I'd guess unless you get free wap its going to rack up the cost

From the TomTom website it looks like it requires regular updates to keep it posted as to where everyone is.

The update runs by GPRS but to be fair it's pretty cheap to run GPRS and i leave it on my PDA all the time to keep checking email etc... It uses very little data to send/receive buddy location details. It uses a similar type and length of data stream that the traffic update uses.
