I am noob to all things SatNav and wonder if you can tell the unit to avoid certain roads.
I have seen pics in the papers of artic's stuck down country lanes.

Simple solution, DUMP THE CARAVAN.

No seriously, you can use the itinerary function and plot your own route berfore you set off.

In that case I may as well stick with an online routefinder like AA or RAC and just get the missus to read out the directions.

On the Garmin nüvi 360 or 660, just change the 'vehicle' option from 'Car/Motorcycle' to 'Truck'.

Sorry, but I have read elsewhere that that only changes the average speed, not the route taken. I own a Nuvi 660, but there is nothing in the instructions which would answer the question for sure.

I think you need to look somewhere else for definite info on this. You could try www.globalpositionsystems.co.uk (I have no connection to them other than as a former satisfied customer) who offer 'live buying advice'.

Well, in the destruction manual, it says:

'Vehicle - touch your vehicle type to optimise routes'

But I'm not sure what that does - it just tried to send a 'truck' along tiny country lanes after expecting a 'pedestrain' to walk along main roads.....

Surely a better idea for any sat nav maufacturers is to make a unit with built in caravan avoidance for normal motorists.

Normal caravanners could use that too to avoid the twits that give considerate 'vanners a bad rep
