do any of the sat navs have the ability to add the preference to not go down dirt tracks when you are towing, its a bit of a pig with the race car trailer and a narrow lane when there is a perfectly acceptable, but slightly longer route avialable. Lorry drivers must need a solution to this as well.

Cant do it on my TomTom 5 on my Pda but am considering buying a new stand alone unit to replace it.

also any one used the traffic jam replanning, seems to be about £10/month on TT but is it any good?

I like the feel of the TT software so am nervous of moving to another brand, any thoughts?

Never used the function but on my Garmin C320 you can select Car/Bike or Lorry/Truck or Pedestrian/Cycle

So I would guess you can select Lorry/Truck and it will keep you on the wider roads.

But as I said never used the function it stays on Car/Bike.

but it's food for thought.

thanks for info, how do you rate the Garmin for planning before you travel and changing the proposed route, something that takes a few attmpts on TomTom, but it can be done with find alternative route selections. i know often the first route isnt the best and the need to avoid some towns or potential hold ups can be fun to beat the computer into submission.

The excellent Garmin nüvi 360 and 660 give you the option under Navigation/Avoidances to avoid Traffic (TMC needed), U-turns, 'Highways', Unpaved Roads, Toll Roads, Ferries and 'Carpool Lanes'. Just tick the box by tapping the screen in the right place.

I'm sure you can get a lorry option free on the net some where (probably PocketGPS world)
The traffic thing is €39 per year (from Tom Tom) and thats €3.25/month, I belive! (about £1-£2 ish!)
And yeah, it's dam good, better than the TMC-RDS traffic thing, just make sure you get unlimited GPRS from you mobile provider!
