TomTom One - some basic questions
Discussion
Hi
I am thinking of buying a TomTom One and just wanted to know if it is easy to add the speed camera data to the basic unit? Do you need any additional leads or software (that doesn't come with the unit) to get the data from pocketgps etc?
Also, what extras is it worth getting as the basic unit seems to be pretty bare ie cover, docking station or other useful bits>
Thought about getting the 510 but the One is cheaper, smaller and I understand it uses the same chipset etc so performance should be similar>
Any help appreciated.

The TT One comes with a USB Kead to connect to your PC.
If you use the Tom Tom download manager, you can add / remove features / maps / Poi's from your TomTom.
It also will help if you get a larger capacity SD Card and copy the supplied datacard onto it.
TomTom One's will take a 1GB datacard no problem

The pocketgpsworld speed camare database will easily fit on the standard SD card.
Before you start anything run the back up utility in TomTom Home (the disc you get with it)
Then to install the data base
First down load and unzip the file, then copy the files (not the folder) then
click on
>>my computer
>>click on the tomtom SD card that is shown as removable storage
>>find the folder where the maps are stored (something like Great_britian_maps)
>> then simply just paste the files into that folder
You will then just have to go into POI's and turn them on and set the sound and distance!

Quick follow on question if I may... when using the speed camera database as POI's, I assume you can't make them speed sensitive but will simply be warned just as though you were approcahing any other POI? Can this warning be changed dependant upon the type of POI in any way?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

you can have a different alert sound for different poi's, but not make them speed sensitive
TomTom one Europe...
I've been thinking about picking up one of these wee widgets as well, not that I'd use it that often, it'd just be nice to avoid the usual map related arguments on long trips.
However,
Can the TT1E do postcode searches in Europe? I know it has full UK coverage.
Also how much does updating SpeedCam info cost?
I'm not bothered about superfluous fripperies like MP3 and Bluetooth, just need the unit to make like a Bhuddist and show me the way.

You can add maps to the UK version as long as your SD card is big enough. Interestingly, I just upgraded to the new maps on my (version 1) TomTom ONE and for 40 quid that also got me major roads of europe as well as street level GB on a seamless map.
That was a waste of money though: I just bought a 910 as I realised it was my best route to bluetooth hands free calling and iPod control. The jag just doesn't have enough surfaces on which to mount extra gadets, nor to I want to haul the interior apart to fit them. Now, if it could make tea as well...

I don't know any to try!! (I'm not sure it does!)
Speedcams cost £2 a shot, normally once a month

Kelkoo may show them at £159, but if you follow the links, the actual vendors are not advertising at that price, i.e. John Lewis, Tesco = £199, Amazon = £187

You can also download voices to replace the bongs, buzzes, and clangs of the standard warning selection. "Gatso - 30" for example.
That sounds useful - can you split out the cameras by speed then? So that you'd get "Gatso 60" and "Gatso 30" depending on the current speed limit?
