Any help is hugely appreciated. I've had a general look around and can find systems that cover most of my wishes but I'm assuming that there is one that covers everything:

UK Maps with option of adding Europe
Hands free bluetooth for phone.
High quality camera detector
Live traffic info
Speeding alert.

TIA

No SatNav systems have camera detectors (whether laser or radar), but almost all systems will tell you were cameras are waiting from a database.

The main SatNav systems all come with UK or European maps (and can be upgraded although it works out cheaper to get Europe first), support traffic info in various ways and can pair with Bluetooth phones. Ones to look at are the high-end units from:

* TomTom
* Garmin
* NavMan

I'm not sure if the systems from the camera detector companies do Bluetooth or live traffic alerts as yet, but for completeness the available units are:

* Snooper Indago
* RoadAngel Navigator

TomTom will do most, One wont do bluetooth phone thing, but then that shouldn't be allowed anyway!
Camera detectors are rubbish, The Police man will have you before the detectors knows!
And they can be annoying in town!!

You could go for TomTom Mobile, then you get to use your normal BT headset and can download Camera database and what ever maps you want

I've got the Tom Tom 510, its got...
Uk Maps with some European roads but is upgradeable for more indepth Europe maps.
Bluetooth phone compatable.
Knows the location of fixed camera locations, and for a fee is updatable (NOT a mobile detector).
Traffic alerts (although after the free trial you have to pay if you want them).
It tells you your current speed and goes red if youre breaking the limit.

There are some sat navs that use RDS to obtain trafic info, and as this is the same as is on alot of car radios, is free.

IIRC the latest RA Nav does have, or the upgrade capability, of both. I'll check

Thanks everyone. Much appreciated.

I was incorrect when mentioning detectors, I meant the database.

Been looking at the top TomTom and the Road Angel, between the two TT seems to have most of what I want.

Will have a look at NavMan as I had not heard of that one.

Is the bluetooth on the TT completely wireless, as in the unit contains speakers and will pick up calls from a phone left in the boot?

Is the camera database on the Tom Tom directional? As it is on the RA Nav (and Snooper Indago AFAIK)?

yes although the mike is connected via a wire.
In all honesty tho' my bluetooth headset works better than the TT's one, as far as how others hear me is concerned. But that could just be down to mike location.

yes again, sort of.
It only bleeps when you are approaching a camera, and then the symbol on the screen indicates which side of the road the camera is on.

Try this,

www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk/garmin-nuvi-660-description.html

Good piece of kit and does all you ask.

Friend of mine has the Road Angel Navigator and has all kinds of probs with it.

Cheers

I use Tom Tom 910 for all the sat nav stuff and a Road Angel Compact with laser attachment. I to couldn't find an all in one solution.

The Bluetooth in the TT710 is completely wireless when mounted on the car mount. The microphone is in the mount base and seems to work fine even in a very noisy environment (Ultima GTR with 6.7L V8).
I don't believe the camera database is directional unless the camera is at the side of a motorway or dual carriageway. This may be because some camera installations can be turned around to work the other direction.

I don't think speeding alert works. If it is a feature then I've not found it yet.

Check your phone model in the TT web site as some are not compatible with the address book connection. Ask me how I know...Damn.

Have you considered using your phone?

I had a PDA running destinator...

Then had a Garmin unit.............

Both worked well but had to be linked up to PC for downloads etc etc...not to mention trying to pack everythingaway out of siht when not in use..very pain in the rear.......

Anyway I use a Nokia N70. great phone works on 3G...I have my full Sat Nav system loaded onto it (Navicore) gives me full dynamic routing free updates on traffic info alrts etc etc free speed camera database, POI etc etc..first class product, even has facilities for when your walking , parking facility (ie to get you back to yor car (or other destination) when in an unknown town etc etc...........

Unlike Navman, tom tom etc etc..it is my phone so blue tooth is no probs fully portable etc etc..well worth having a look at.

Yeh I have access to my email through the 3 network

The product is great..I've used mine for everything and teh phone works a treat too...havent had any problems with recieveing calls on it whilst sat nav is operational...though I usually put it on loudspeaker as opposed to using my bluetooth earpiece.

GO to one of teh phone shops and hassell them to let you try the product out..but dont let them sell you the Nokia version with the N70 I had that first and it dodnt work..was unbelievably incompatible (differnt software upgrade)

Here a link to a review I'd personally mark it higher than 8/10

I would reecommend either the nüvi 360 or 660 without question.

Much neater than other systems - and as they're only about 1" deep in their leather pouches, will fit into a jacket pocket very easily.

You can subscribe to the scamera database once your 90-day trial period is over - to obtain updates you just go to the website, plug the nüvi into a USB port with the cable included with the unit and follow the prompts.

Bluetooth phone works well; no wires needed although an external microphone can be plugged in with you buy one from Garmin. It'll even read out your text messages for you! Not sure how it copes with txt msg 'yoofspeak' though. Edit - just tried it and it even understands that!

High quality street-level mapping for UK, Ireland, Western Europe, Scandinavia, Poland and Croatia is included as is urban coverage of Slovenia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, the Baltic States - and parts of Greece.

Didn't think the camera warnings were directional on the RA Nav I tried (albeit briefly). I seemed to pick everything up e.g. when driving over roads with cameras on them though maybe that's a bit much to expect from the directional feature.

Yes they are. Very much so Chris. Although it does occasionally pick up a speed camera on a bridge (thats not actually on your carriageway), but not often and usually just one or two warning beeps then goes away.
