Help wanted - if you're in a techy mood read on...

Just been given a Navman SPiN 100 add-on for pocket PC. Comes with Bluetooth RX and SD card with Navman software and maps on, so you just plug it in to your device (Acer N50 in my case) and off you go.

Trouble is although the SW appears to support user defined POI, it doesn't come with anything to load them on to the machine. The manual refers to using the SmartST desktop but according to Navman Tech Support this isn't shipped with the device and they can't sell me one separately.

The Software is SmartST V3.5 - I think the SW is shared with other Navman platforms (PiN 300 and 570) so if there is anyone who has it, would they like to try sending me a POI file from their device to try? If this works I'll try and source the software; if it doesn't then I think it's time to buy something else.

Note, I want the files from the device (probably in Navman/MyPOIs and having files ending in .map, .bm, .ini and .chk), not the CSV files to load into your PC. A set of Active POIs for speed cameras would be ideal, but if all you have is pet food shops then at least it'll prove my point.

Thanks,
AdrianR

Hi Adrian.... I have the PiN300 and I have just bought the other half a PiN570 and to be honest the POI are not that good (banks, resaurants and government buildings which aren't much help) unless you put your own in.... something I haven't done after having it for 2 years! I tried the so called 'free Speed Camera Download' but couldn't get it to download The PDA and Sat Nav, however, are excellent. Might try the Speed Camera download again when the missus gets round to downloading it to hers.

Hope this helps...... wouldn't know how to send you the files anyway, not that techy I'm afraid?

Hi

Don't suppose you could post the link to the speed camera location download could you. I've also got Pin 570 and so far i've only found downloads which you have to subscribe too.

RE POI, only one's of any use are the petrol station and resturant one's others are fairly useful in my opinion.

Regards

Chris

It's the user defined POI I'm interested in - the rest are preloaded on the SPiN 100 anyway.

I was going to try the PocketGPSWorld database. It used to be free but now charges a pretty modest £2 for a months membership which includes downloading the speed camera files.

www.pocketgpsworld.com/subscription.php

I do also have a copy of their database from Dec 2005 for test purposes, which was before they went subscription. Happy to make this available to whoever volunteers to convert it to device format as per my request.

pocketgpsworld.com - the Speed Camara download is free when you buy the PiN 570 from globalpositioningsystems.co.uk, other than that you have to pay as has already been mentioned.
