Hi Everyone

I'm thinking of getting a camera detector for my Cerbera (I've got a tom tom 910 which I use in the Range Rover) has anyone got any experience of using the Road Angel and Origin B2 and if so do you have any preferences (ie display etc)

Cheers

Gareth

Personally I prefer the Road Angel, which I upgraded to from the original Origin blue-i.

The Road Angel is one box that sits atop your dash, with just one cable for power. The Origin has an external GPS antenna and also an optional laser sensor, both of which are built into the RA, making the RA the much neater solution IMO.

There are down-sides to the RA though, it's database isn't as good as it doesn't tell you the actual limit of the cameras you encounter. The Origin also shows the road a camera is located on, so when you spot that the camera is actually on a road close to you, but not in your direction of travel you can ignore it.

Another issue though is that if your Cerb has a heated front screen, the Road Angel may have reception problems when mounted on the dash, which is not an issue with the Origin, as you can mount the antenna in the rear window.

Hi

I've got the new Roadangel Plus, it's got a built in battery which gives about 8 hours between charges.

It does actually show the speed limit when you travel through a speed camera site, con't know if the more basic versions have this facility. I have mine in the middle of the dash in my Focus which has the heated screen. Can take a few minuites to find the GPS but once locked on it's fine.

Cost me £300 in Febuary this year, plus £4/month subscription, think they've come down in price since.

I’ve got a b2 picked over the other because I’ve a metalised screen and it came with an antenna I also liked the fact that I could plug in an le30 without any major electrical work to the car.

Picked up cameras well and new ones when they were noted except on the m56 at Bowden for ages, It was bloody slow at taking them off. Didn’t like the cradle but fitted it to the rear of the mobile phone cradle so no gluing and drilling on the dash.

Annoying features like school and black spots but you could switch that off, found it picked up sats quite quick.

To be honest don’t use it now prefer to open eyes and lift vision, found I was lazy with it, didn’t get it fitted in my new car as there was nowhere to fit it too

I can't say anything about the B2 as I haven't used it but I have to correct what's been said about the road angel not showing speeds. All but the New Road Angel and Classic show the camera speed. I have a navigator and it's great. If you're just looking for a camera detector I'd go for the compact or plus as said above as it has a built in battery so no need to have cables. The database on the road angel is really good as well as it only tells you of cameras that are enforcing your direction so if the camera is on the opposite side then you'll have no alert. Who would want to know about a camera that is on another road. Only thing I say is keep it up to date otherwise you may not get alerts to new cameras such as roadworks. I tend to update before big motorway journeys or every other day as it doesn't take long.

b2 is a good bit of kit...

When it's not shouting at you, it's a big digital speedo, which is nice

Had mine for a couple of years, but the screen's on the blink now.

It's £70 for a repair, or swap it for a brand new unit, including all the kit, for £170.
