I want a cheap kit which can be used wandering around European cities sightseeing and also getting around in my car. I live in London and it'd be great to have one I can use on my motorbike as well.

I want to do a European driving tour next summer, probably in France, maybe Italy. I may actually end up waiting till then, but I'd like one sooner if there are any real bargains.

I don't drive very much, so an expensive kit is pointless. So far I've been pleasantly surprised with a laptop using a Pharos/Autoroute PCWorld bargain special for going to collect eBay auction goods.

I wonder about something also usable as a PDA...I hardly ever use phones, so a mobile phone isn't a priority.

Any recommendations on models and sources, please?
Thanks,
H

have look at www.handtec.co.uk they have a couple of PDA options with built in GPS, you will need to pay extra for European mapping.

I'm in a similar situation.

Want a sub £170 satnav...need real reviews though !

Should I go for Navman ? TomTom 1 v2 ?

Any reviews would be helpful.

Thanks Bert...it was very helpful, your review. That's just where asking for help really is fantastic. Provided you don't mindlessly follow advice from smeone who is actually selling them it's a big plus.
Is the TomTom any good for wandering around Paris, Rome or London?
I will do a bit more homework. At least I now where to start looking, though.

With the One, it won't do Paris or Rome without an extra map pack, downloads are usually 30 quid for the area (France) plus any additional SD cards you need to buy to fit them on, I got a 512mb and that fits on GB and France just about.

You can wander around with them, as they have walking routes, although I have never used the feature, I did enter in and found it would take 17 hours to walk to Leeds biglaugh
