map updates??

With the systems which come pre loaded with UK maps (most of them) how are these maps updated (new roads, postcodes etc) and how often does this happen?

Garmin seem to have data updates on a yearly basis, the v9 data for SteetPilot i3 is due out before Christmas I'm told.

The updates are dependent upon the data provider however, which for Garmin is NavTech - I presume most manufacturers utilise the data as soon as they can, after all they can charge update fees and the like.

Thanks for that - so the facility exists for the basic map to be updated - that's a darn good thing!
