Satnav with EU maps?

Having a worse sense of direction than women, I've figured its about time I ditch the road atlas and switch to using a satnav that will tell me where to go. I don't know much about the different satnav systems out there, so any suggestions would be welcome! What I am after is:
1. Full UK and EU maps. I've seen some that advertise "major" EU roads, is this any good, or is it better to have a full EU map?
2. Either have a long lasting battery, or something that can be plugged into the cigarette lighter
3. Voice directions - otherwise i might aswell just stick to reading road atlas's
4. As cheap as possible - ideally under £150, but that may be a bit too little for what I want, so I can always stretch a bit more.
5. Optional - indicating scamera locations would be nice
6. where are the best places to buy these?

TomTom will do all of that.

What kind of mobile phone do you have? Symbian devices can run TomTom.

I have a 3 year old, cheapest i could find pay as you go phone so I doubt it will be of any use for that.

I'm upgrading my phone in next few weeks and am interested in this sort of thing. I'm with Orange so do you know of any phones compatible with their systems that I could consider?

You wont get one with full euro mapping for £150 or less. You'll need to add another £100 at least for that. So if you can stretch to it, get the TomTom One Europe edition.
Otherwise, get a cheaper one, and add the maps later when you can afford it.

I've seen a TomTom on ebay advertising "THE LATEST STREET LEVEL SEAMLESS WESTERN EUROPE MAP v650 ON A SINGLE 1Gb SD CARD", how accurate will the map of europe be on that?
Will it just give me major roads for European countries, or is it as accurate as the GB map?

I purchase Tom Tom Navigator 5 western europe 2006 on ebay for about £120 and used in on a m1000 orange pda. Need a wired gps receiver and holder about another £40 on ebay.

Had a few problems setting up - you need to disable beam for incoming signals in system connections. Oh, needs to set Tom Tom to 4800 baud and com1
