See My post, recently bought the Pioneer portable unit "AV1C-S1" which was around £400 and is excellent. UK + European Full Mapping included, plus a built in bluetooth phone kit!
Cerby4.5
I have a Nuvi 360. It has UK and European maps to street level, bluetooth, is eminently portable due to it's size. It has MP3 capability, can receive traffic broadcasts (via an optional add on) and has a detour function if the road you are on becomes blocked. It also has a few other features that may or may not be useful to you. Subscription to a monthly updated camera database is £19 per year from pocketgps, os £2 for a 1 month subscription which would be enough to get you a single download. Downside is that if you are planning a circuitous journey it can only accept one waypoint, despite being able to store up to 500.
Costs about £420
