Can anyone with an intermitent fault?

I started with version 3.0 on an IPAQ 3870 which worked fine, and I duly upgraded to version 5.0 on the IPAQ which seemed to go OK until a few weeks ago when part through a navigation I got an error message window which said 'trouble connecting' with two option boxes of 'OK' or 'settings'
By pressing OK it appeared to revert back to navigate as though nothing jad been wrong.

Recently on start up, sometimes I have not been able to get a GPS fix and opening the GPS page I can see that the system is showing no GPS info being received at all.

Both the IPAQ and GPS Receiver are getting power as the green LED telltale on the Receiver is flashing with a regular on/off pattern but I have the impression that when sufficient satllite data is received, the flashes change to a repeated pattern of on/off/on/delayed off, but I may be wrong.
Basically the system appears to be up and running but is not receiving GPS data. All the connections seem OK and I can't find a break in the feed wires.

Any thoughts please?

Paul

Don't know, but you could try re-installing the software.

I upgraded from 3 to 5 too.

Thought 5 had full postcode support, but I'm only getting the first 3 characters, as with TT3.

Does your 5 have full postcodes?

Yep, full 6 character/digit selection. The page that is shown after you select post code updates as you enter the required code until you see the final code you want in the options offerred or you finish entering the full code at which time Tom tom should have put your code at the top of the page as there can't be any other option.
It has been some time since I startd from scratch and loaded version 5, but I do have a recollection that initially I too had only 3 character selection and that I had to do something to get the full 6 character option.
A colleague at work helped so I will ask him and send you a pm if I find out what it we did.

I've got the same problem on TT5 with postcodes - I've lost the ability to search right to the last 2 characters. I'm pretty sure I had full postcodes at one point, and the only change I've made is the latest upgrade from TT (some time ago now...). I'd love to know if you find a fix.....

Have a look at pocketgpsworld.com.

IIRC (its been a while) I browsed through the files on my PDA and went to the SD card file (or wherever you have saved the maps) and then I added a new file called "TOMTOM" (nothing gets put in this file) and then I got full postcode recognition.

ive a ipaq 2210 with bluetooth and get exactly the same problems. im not sure but doesnt it state it can take something like 45 seconds from switching on to it working? all i do is soft reset on the ipaq and it usually woks fine. as for the post codes, sometimes it stops before putting the full code in like tn24 3 then prompts where in tn24 3 you want to go by road name. pees me off sometimes!

Hi

I've just bought a HP iPAQ 6910. Its got a build in gps receiver and came with Tom Tom navigator 5 pre installed. There was one free map download which I've done - does anyone know where I can get hold of other maps. I'm also getting the same problem with the postcode search

cheers

Re the post code problem on upgrading from 3 to 5...

There's a fix on Tomtom's website...

You need to copy the postcode file from SD card to another folder on the PDA.

Can't remember details, but it's in the FAQ's....
