Q1)Has anybody here been able to receive Tom Tom plus traffic updates without either:

a) buying the service
b) activating the one month's free service?

Q2) Does anybody use traffic, and what do they think of it?

Q2 for me then. Was vaguely useful in London, but tends towards the generic information, rather than intelligently routing without being prompted. Did a couple of smart shortcuts because of it, but not enough to justify a sub. Thought that the journey times were more realistic with it, but that might be just me.

I have used traffic for quite a while now and love it. Reading to Oxford is the dreaded route and it has saved me loads. And it is very precice to.
