I noticed Tesco's selling these Talex Lite units for £80, anyone any experience of using them???

They seem very cheap, and the updates are only £59 for 3 yrs ....

Not sure if Road Angel or Snoopers are a better bet with radar....

I have taken a look at the Tesco website, but can't find this Talex, could you post a link to the ad please? Very good deal if it's on sale for £80.

Ive just bought one from my local 'tesco extra', I dont think they have then at the normal stores. Also bear in mind this is the Talex lite not the std one.

Diferences are here www.talex.co.uk/facts/features.asp

It seems quite well made and worked right out of the box finding the sats within a minute or so and with the database already on board. There is also a special offer included for a years update subs for £25 including the usb lead. Ive got a Snooper S3 and the voice alerts are certainly less annoying so far than the Snooper's bleeps. The constant speed readout is usefull too.

For £79 id say its rather a bargain.

They seem the cheapest and in many ways the best 'tells you what you need to know' box on the market ....

Thanks for the info moreymach ... I'll get one in the next few days.

When I first saw them in Tesco's (Stevenage) I asked and was told their was no problem if I returned it within 28days for a full refund, so nothing to loose ....

Just seen Woolworths are doing these on offer for £70 ..

Not sure if thats mail order only, or in the shops ..

Get one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After reading X reviews etc I bought one today from Tesco for £80 (Woolworth's online do them for £70+5pp) ...
Amazing small box of tricks ...

I was told that most GPS units will not work with my reflective windscreen without an external ariel ... but this locks on within 15 seconds ... I pleasantly surprised.

Not having a display I would say is a bonus ... the LED shows your speed (use it as an accurate speedo in peripheral field of view ... reverts to clock when stationary).

Drove around this afternoon some 'known spots' ... picked up local GATSO's ... works directionally ... and all the mobile sites I know about around here ...

Stays quiet for most the journey ... very unobtrusive ... no 'cry wolf' syndrome (think Laser devices would get on my nerves!) .. within 500 yrds of a camera female voice warning says what it is ... then nothing if you are and stay below the speed limit ... if you are exceeding it 'shouts at you!' to slow down getting louder until you do!... very effective ... chimes when you past the device and all goes quiet ...

No looking at screens ... no false warnings ... tiny unit wouldn't attract thieves ... and updates only £59/3 years .... really can't fault it...

Bargain at £80 !!!!!!!!!

Hi guy's,

Could be tempted by one of these - how does the subscription/update work on the 'lite' model?

Tried looking on there website but think I'm being a bit thick - how do you update it? do you need to by the 'update kit'??

Cheers

Chris

Mine came with a Tesco 'special promotion' card, fill in and send away for £25 to get the 1st year and a free USB cable.
(Normally £35).

It doesn't come with a USB cable ...

All updates are via a free program you download from their web site.
www.talex.co.uk/updateutility/default.asp

3yrs is £59 ... comes pre-installed with a database.
Its worth doing the above £25 promotion to get the free USB cable ...

Hope this helps.

Are these definitely being sold by Tesco Express - I've called a few in my area (Salisbury) and they don't know what I'm talking about!

Had a quick scout round my local Tescos (Birmingham) lastnight - found them in there for £80, will be going back tonight and grabbing one.

Not sure what the difference between a 'normal' tescos and an 'express' is - the one by me is a big Tesco superstore type thing......

Not much help - sorry.

Well picked one up yesterday from Tesco's - this is my first dabble with scamera devices, and have to say so far seems OK.
Sent of my voucher for the USB cable and 12 month subscription (£24.99) - so will see when that arrives.
Drove round yesterday to see what it picked up and was very impressed - picked up all the local cameras (except the 2 that appeared lastweek ) and most of the red light cameras.

Just one question though - how accurate is the GPS speedo? - comparing that to my car's there seems to be about a 4-6mph difference! (car reading under..).

WIll see how it goes over the next couple of weeks.

I've used this unit for a couple of days in 3 different cars. I have to say that I'm quite impressed so far. It even acquires the sat whilst sitting in the cubby hole in the Cerbera - which means I don't really need to have it sitting on the dash.

As for speedo reading - I would have to say that it's accurate. My Audi speedo overestimates the speed the car is travelling at, but the Cerbera speedo is bang on. Based on this, I'll trust that the Talex reading is correct.

Re. The Tesco £25 voucher for 1 years subscription and USB cable, normally £35.

Talex were happy to use this and knock £10 off the 3yr subscription bringing it from £59 to £49/3yr ....

Also from having spoken to them they are updating the database on a daily basis, but a new one tends to be online each Friday .... so very up to date.
