I just can't believe how open people on this forum are about blatant piracy. It's half witted to be frank and it'll get Ted in trouble...

As if I would... Anyway, the fact that I said it has Feck all to do with the forum. Teds Disclaimer abstains him from being responsible for the content of members posts.

What is said, and what is done are to completely different things.... Watch this one ...

"Oh God, Im gonna kill my wife when she gets home for not ironing my shirt".

Ok, now ive implied Murder.. quick, call the police... Get a life!

Actually that isn't true. There were a few cases last year of forums effectively shut down for not taking a stand on software / music / video copying. If a disclaimer covered all, then running one of those MP3 torrent sites would be easy... yet big fines have been handed out

Sorry, my initial reply was probably heavy handed, but I've seen the fallout from this sort of stuff...and it's not pretty.

Fair enough, I accept what your saying here, and this is not a retort or provocation for the discusssion to get heated or nasty here..

I understand what your saying, and accpet from Teds point of view there is a duty of care on his behalf to ensure he stamps out piracy etc, wouldnt there have to be physical proof though .. ie just cos I said I was going to do something.... doesnt mean I have done it ? I agree there is implication but without backing that up with physical evidence isnt it the same as proclaiming "I speed" ... ie without hard evidence, the legality is on unstable groung ?

(only wondering... I know it would cause grief for Ted too).

The way that the other sites got shut down is they were accused of promoting piracy. Whether they were actually involved in any wasn't really the issue. It was a grey area for a number of years, but after the film companies got involved and effectively got rulings that torrent sites were involved in the process of copyright violation, it all kicked off.

I think half the issue is we've all grown up with home taping (everyone in the UK must a an iffy recording of the top 40 on some badly labeled BASF tape in the cupboard), video's off the tele, Spectrum games that load on the 5th attempt they've been copied so much and everything on the internet is free.

Well, they were golden days that we'll never see again :-(

Mod chips for playstations are illegal now, the BBC are DRM'ing things left right and center, and you have to pay to use some websites now! And not even the porn ones! The future is free hardware and pay for the content.

I'll say sorry again for going off on one in the first place. This is a nice place to hang out and I would like to see it disappear.

If the maps are anything like the add-on voices, they're encrypted (TomTom's wording, not mine) for the specific serial number of your device. (Yes, I couldn't resist getting John Cleese to give me directions...)
