Got a TomTom one yesterday, what a blinding bit of kit, really well thought out.

I downloaded a speed camera database, which cleverly enough even includes places where talivans park (and it's right!) as well as gatsos and all other stealth tax collection devices.

However, anyone got any ideas what I should set the distance alarms too? I'm at 275 yards at the mo, which is fine for gatsos etc but I'm not sure if a talivan will already have "12 o'clock and tone" by that time.

Any ideas chaps/chapettes?

It can be downloaded from

www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras.php

From the end of the month it's a £2 per download fee (good value I reckon)

I'm still fiddling with the distances on mine and I am currently using (speedx10) i.e. 70mph 700 yds

Assuming the TT One interface is the same as TT5 on my PDA, tap the screen for the menu and then go to Change Preferences/Manage POI/Warn when near POI. Then select the POI category (mobile, fixed, red light etc) and adjust the distance as required.

Hope this makes sense!

Cheers for the reply, but I'm OK changing the distance, it's just I need to know what to change it to.

Perhaps a BiB on the other forum might know exactly.

I suspect that you are between a rock and a hard place on this one. Cant the evil ones pick you up over half a mile away? In which case, you would have to set the warning to 3/4 to ensure a non "dangerous" reduction in speed, at which point you may as well not go ver the limit anyway.
I have mine at around 400, and am relying heavily on corners

Ah, that'll serve me right for not reading the post properly!

Mine is set to 600 and the only time I've come across an 'active' mobile site, it was enough warning. On a long straight though, who knows. Its a tricky one.

I've just installed the camera database on my dad's TT700 - really good bit of kit!

Just wondering what the consensus is on the distance alarms? Is 10 x speed about right? Any advice would be much appreciated.

On the Garmin Nuvi the default is 600 yrds and I am well happy with that as it is the alarm does sound then for 600yrds in both directions making 1200 yrds in total.

I've left mine at the std settings, but you can change the SPECS ones to the lowest setting (you know, the ones that time you)
I might go for the speed times ten though 30=300mtrs, but if you are just using it as a camera detector it could give you warnings about cameras on other roads!

Thanks guys. I've set it to 10 x speed and I think I'll have to borrow it for quite some time. Just to make sure.......

How about loading in both the speed stated locations and the non speed ones. You will then have 2 warnings. One with the general POI for a camera and the other with the specific speed at that POI. For example I have the Mobiles with a warning at 1000yards saying Mobile and then another at 500yards with Mobile 70, as the speed ecrease and with Gatsos I have altered the distances to suit. Then you should be able to cover all types of camera etc without missing the warning. The verbal warnings can be downloaded from pocketgps.com and cover all camera types and speed ratings.
