Don't usually read this forum so apologies if this has been mentioned before.

I don't personally see the point of satnav except maybe for taxi drivers and have always managed perfectly ok with a map, but could someone with a bit more technical nous than me explain if/how fitting satnav could in any way be similar to the dreaded 'black boxes' that we have been threatened with?

If so it seems that everyone could be voluntarily fitting their own government tracking devices much to the excitement of the nazis in Westminster.

I hope someone can confirm that I'm talking bollox!

The Tomtom system explicitly states in the instructions that the device cannot be used to track your previous journeys, or be 'read' by another system to track you.

GPS devices can't relay position information without an extra facility such as GPRS data links.

I've just bought one. Don't see the point? the point is that it will tell me where to go when I'm going somewhere I don't know how to get to (on my bike). If the guys in Westminster have nothing better to do than follow me around at 5mph...then.... well, dunno really!

because a Garmin i3 for £99 is the cheapest and one of the best speed camera locators you can buy.

I did not buy it for the sat nav, just the speed camera warnings although I do find it handy as it tells me the accurate speed I am doing and what street I'm on!

cheers
