Thanks for the Garmin tip

Just a note to say thanks to the Guys who gave the heads up on Garmin i3 at Somerfields for £100.
Shot down there this morning and got the last one on the shelf..!
This is just the job, It will sit in the hallway, so that my gaughter, myself or wife can take it when going to an unfamiliar area.
I was umming and aahhing about a Snooper Indago (more bells and whistles), so you've just saved me £500.
Thanks again
Graham

At that price I think I'll pick one up to live permanently in one of our cars.
Someone mentioned they are that price in KwikSave too, does that means the stores that Morisons bought out and haven't re-badged yet or the store that had to be flogged off as a part of the deal?
As I've got a Morissons in easy reach if the local Somerfield doesn't have the good tomorrow...

Hells teeth, the £99 was good but that really is a bargain, they must hate you. It really is a nice little toy and to be honest it does (nearly) everything that I require it to do, certainly helped out on the tunnels run on Saturday. All of Brittany is covered as well which is where I mostly go when in France so that it handy. Le Mans unfortunately just gets missed off by what can only be a short distance but not really worth buying the France map just for that.
Get the speed cameras loaded and you are away.

Did 300 miles with it last night, and I'd say it's better than TomTom 2 which I've used extensively, a few minor niggles, mainly as it's missing feature I've had on TomTom (such as the "camera" angle in 3D view), but the data (v7) is far superior to TomTom and at sub £100 I can cope with some niggles.
Camera feature work well too, a warning at the top of the screen if you're below the limit, verbal warning and icon on map if you're above, a few too many false alarms, but the data is free, so can't complain.

I am thinking about building something in magnolia leather to house it on the front roll bar on my cerb ie above rear view mirror.
Got two more units at Halfords in Dartford after a lot of work, as the manager of Somerfield in Battersea has had a strop and refuses to answer calls on stock levels or prices of the i3 after all the calls he's had with no corresponding purchases!

A guy from work got me one last night from Somerfields on Canvey Is, the guy said that they were expecting another 25 next week, still had quite a few left.

so do you reckon it's worth getting one of these Garmin i3's rather than a Road angel? Is the speed camera map on the Garmin as accurate as a Road angel?
I've run a new Road Angel for around two years now, and already prefer the i3, if it wasn't for laser detection I'd probably get rid of that too.
Did a 300 mile run on Tuesday and it spotted all the cameras, gave a few incorrect warnings, but no enough to worry about, and they could have been known camera van sites, sans Van, as I was driving in the middle of the night.
At £99 for SatNav it's a bargain, that is can do speed cameras too (and properly with alerts only if over the limit), is the icing on the cake.
And of course the i3 camera data is £50 per years cheaper
Tripps,
Nice Cerbera by the way!
I thought the laser detection on the RA worked too late to react to slow down? so not really that relevant?
I am on the brink on buying a New Road Angel, but now very tempted by the Garmin i3 at that low price.
So the camera maps are free for the Garmin? My only concern is that is would not be accurate enough, but need to find somewhere on the net to read up about it!
cheers

Whitey, speed camera database is not from Garmin itself but from Pocket GPS World.
www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras.php
it is an established site with a good user base who also help to keep the information updated, as far I as I know its databases are as accurate and as up to date as the subscription services. The unit is a cracker and at this sort of money I heartily recommend it. Admitedly I have not used a a road angel or similar so unlike Tripps cannot do a straight comparison but it looks like you are not bothered about the laser detection, if this is the case then I would think it is a no brainer.
