Connecting TomTom500 to GPRS - Help please!
Discussion
I hope someone out there can help me. Santa brought me a TomTom and I am trying to set up the connection to the internet via GPRS to access the TomTom Plus traffic information. I recently bought a Tesco Mobile Nokia 6230 (Bluetooth and GPRS enabled) on a Pay as you Go tariff (delivered for Tesco by O2 I believe) to allow me to do this, as my work-provided mobile doesn't give me internet access.
I have successfully set up a Bluetooth pairing between the TomTom and the 6230 (I know this works because I can now use the TomTom as a bluetooth handsfree for the phone when in the car). When I now try and setup the wireless internet connection, the Tom Tom's automatic setup does not work.
There is a manual setup mode that lets me enter the relevant information to get the connection up and running. Below is what I have worked out so far by looking at phone settings and referring to some helpful info on the TomTom site here Unfortunately this doesn't have the exact detail for Tesco mobile.
GPRS Access point name? prepay.tesco-mobile.com
User name? tescowap
Password? I left blank
Obtain IP address automatically (DHCP) or enter manual address? I tried auto
Obtain DNS server address automatically or enter manually? I tried auto
If Manual, what are the preferred and alternative DNS addresses? ???
Dial sequence? looking at the TomTom site "*99#" seems to be standard
Login script? from TomTom site seems like this should be something like: at+cgdcont=1,"ip","prepay.tescomobile.com","",0,0
I think this is close, but it won't work! Can anyone advise where I am going wrong? Is there anything else I need to do? I presume my Tesco mobile service allows me unrestricted internet access?
I'll e-mail this question to Tesco support and TomTom support as well and post up anything helpful - I'm sure I won't be the last to try and get this combination working.
Appreciate any help.

Well after much time spent searching the web, exchanging of e-mails with Tesco mobile (helpful) and TomTom support (not especially helpful), and then fiddling around manually with settings, I got my TT talking bluetooth to my phone and then initiating a GPRS session connecting to Tesco WAP. However, the TT still told me it could not access Plus services.
I have now reached the conclusion that the Tesco GPRS WAP service does not let you break out to the internet to access the TomTom traffic info, only view pages hosted by Tesco (apologies if this is not the entirely correct technical description, I'm just putting it in my layman's terms).
Bottom line is I'm fortunately still in the 28 day period when I can still change my mind and return the Tesco phone, which I am going to do, and look for an alternative package that supports the feature I need. So nothing lost but a bit of my time really. I will go out this weekend and hunt out a new phone deal a bit better educated as to the questions I need to be asking.

I had the same problem but i have 3 phones on 3 different providers all of them are ment to be able to connect to the internet, Samsung D500 (O2), MDA Compact (T-mobile) and a new SPV 550 (orange) none of them would work properly with the traffic and weather options on TT500. I was about to give up but, i was downloading the speed camers locations and at the same time uploaded the newest version of TT500. Next time i used the TT500 it connected with the SPV550 and worked perfectly. Maybe you need to upload latest version???
