Thinking of getting me one of the these for the TVR as seen they are down to £144 in Woolies, don't want a bells and whistles unit anyway as already have satnav in the big car, just a basic get me out of trouble if lost thing (must say have got lazy from having it last 2 family cars and really miss it when I get lost now in a car without it) - also love the size of the i3 compared to most, will fit nice and snugly to the right of the instrument binnacle I think.

However I am getting confused to how it is with Europe coverage so need some advice from someone with one ideally. I understand it comes with no CD just the UK pre-loaded on the Card, this I understand also covers some of the Northern region of France. Question is how far down does it go, not bothered about too much just really want it for Le Mans this year so does it go that far. Other sites suggest that it does have main road mapping built in for Europe as standard just not down to street level, this in itself would be fine so if someone can advise on this would be great. Asked in Halford but did not have any in and looked slightly confused at my questions, not even going to bother asking in Woolies . I know that extra region cards can be bought but think they are £90 a pop which pushes it well in to TomTom One territory and I then have a decision to make.

My old Garmin GPS V unit had major trunk routes for the whole of Europe, they weren't that good, but should be enough to get you to Le Mans going via major routes - if you start on the twisties and get lost it'll think you're in the middle of nowhere and it'll likely be up to you to get to a major road.

Cheers Tripps, think I am just going to go for it, to be honest at this money it's no great loss so has got to be worth a punt. Am sure if I really need more than it has as standard, then with a bit of illicit hunting on the internet I may even be able to find the european bits I need for download somewhere.

Funnily enough saw that posted up somewhere else just last night, bit of a bugger as got one now. Only £140 from Woolies though so still a good price and managed to convince someone else to buy it for me for my Birthday so in effect free .

Have to say though it appears to be a great little unit so far, basic and missing some of the toys of the more expensive stuff (i.e multi point routing etc) but it does have the ability to load the speed camera database on and it does the basic point to point navigation very well. At anything under £150 it is an absolute steal and I would highly recommend it..

That really is an amazing deal, bit gutted I (or someone else) paid more just last week.

Have a look at the forums here:

Loads of really interesting stuff and this is also the site for the free speed camera database which is great.
Also after finding a program mentioned on those forums I have just changed my splash screen to this :

have you managed to load the saftery camera data?
I get the POI loader up (and I have already unzipped the two sets of data) but i am not sure I have found the camera files with POI?! I had to go into each subfolder with csv files and point to that!!!?

Every time you update your points of interest it will overwrite any previous ones you have loaded. So if you for instance you wanted to add one csv file with new stuff then you would need to put it in the folder with the originals you still want or else you will end up with only the one new file loaded.

I have just created a folder called "Garmins POI" all individual files get plonked into that and then you just point the loader at that folder and it will load everything in it.

Read this thread as well as it is quite useful with regards to the Speed Cameras; I thought at first mine was tempermental, always alerting me to speed cameras with a boing and message but only sometimes showing where it was on the map. Turns out that they only show on the map if you are over the speed limit!! There is a fix thankfully as I for one want to see them always displayed. You may also want to avoid using the express install and do a manual one, this lets you set the proximity distance at which you are alerted in feet, the default is determined by speed as well I think.

Ah, have to point you at another thread (you can see I have been busy ), you need to download another bit of software but there is a link to it in the thread.

www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=33046&highlight=splash

If you ever want to put it back to standard then make sure you take a copy of the original and save it before you overlay another one. And also be sure to ignore the error message that comes up after the transfer, it does on mine as well but just turn machine off and on again and lo and behold it has done it.
