Not sure if I do them any more, but I've a Trafficmaster Freeway which picks up the infra red broadcasts on motorways and major trunk roads and speaks them to you in a simple form, like "M1 northbound, slow traffic for 5 miles after junction 18, expect 15 minutes delay", giving you enough info to make a good call.
£30 a year subscription after the first year and for me made its money back on the first M1 journey we went on.

As long as you have a phone which supports it - mine does and it works well! Basically its the TrafficMaster system but on your phone. Uses GPRS to get the data and £40 a year (+data costs).
