My friend has lost his product code for his TomTom GO, and since I tried updating the software its refusing to activate the maps.

TomTom are insisting that the only way we can get it working again is to buy a new map from them - which is extremely unhelpful. We've got all the receipts and paperwork for the original device, its just that there wasn't ever a product code in there - or its been lost! I understand they're trying to stop piracy, but its not fair that this comes at the expense of a genuine customer who hasn't really done anything wrong.

Does anyone have access to a product code that I can use to activate the map? This is a genuine request, I'm not trying to pirate some dodgy maps. It just seems very unfair that a £500 device now doesn't work, because of a simple little code.

Its a 15 digit code that I need to enter into the TomTom site to activate the map. I can show you pictures of the receipts, the device, the box, paperwork, everything - can anyone help? I don't see why we should shell out more money to get it working again, despite what TomTom say

IIRC when you initially activate a map (or if it's done in the shop for you) then the code is unique to that machine and map set - you can't use someone else's code as it won't work. You have to either find your original code or buy another set.

The only other way around this is to use the backup that you made before you ran any of the updates.

Sorry!
