Which moderately expensive Sat Nav?

Just sold my car so I am using the gf's for a couple of weeks. Its her bday in early December so I think that she needs a SatNav for her car as a bday gift! hehehe

Okay...So I don't mind dropping between £300 to £400...Which one is known as the market leader and the best? I was thinking of one of the TomTom units, are they good?...Is there any other makes that I should look at? I don't want a mass of wires in the car and I don't really want a Windows pocket PC device either...

Any suggestions are gratefully received!

Ive got tom tom navigator 5 loaded onto my works pda still not a patch on my alpine dvd navi but not bad, not tried any others though ,
