posted this on general gassing, but thought this was probably a better home...

would be interested in people's thoughts / experiences on this. I appreciate there have been a proliferation of cameras (particularly in London) but it seems that the databases that support the GPS systems are lagging ever further behind.

I believe I am right in saying that no one will now offer you a cash reward if you find a camera not on their database? Also I find it rather disturbing that Snooper no longer take note of the uploads of new positions that users can do after they have downloaded new sites.

Clearly these companies want us to all sign up to paying a monthly fee, but don't want the enormous expense of having a full time fleet of people patrolling the roads to find the most recent additions?

I must admit I am increasingly losing confidence in S****** as the number of cameras I have passed that have not been on their database if disturbing (I weekly update the locations).

Thoughts / comments / views / experiences?

Great question. Hope you don't mind if I add a related query?

I've currently got an old Morpheous Geodesy and it's time to change up to a newer GPS based scamera locator system. Anyone know which of the main players include mobile locations in their database in addition to the fixed camera sites?

I don't think any system has "mobile locations". The Origin B2 will alert you went you're in a so called "blackspot", as this is where most mobile cameras will be used. You can also plug a "garage door opener" into the B2, which strangely seems to screw the camera readout for about five seconds.

Problem is they can tell that the signal has been jammed and may pull you over (even if you were within the limit at the time). If they can prove you were trying to block their equipment they can (and will) throw the book at you anyway...

Considering how many faulty garage door openers get sold I'm surprised at the sparse number of prosecutions.......

Bugger. If the systems don't have the possible mobile sites on their databases, there isn't much point in upgrading from my Geodesy.

thanks

My Origin B2 has been 100% accurate so far.

No they can't...and why would they bother. They're just after easy cash.

www.Pocketgps.com have a database with mobile sites included. You'll need a TomTom Go or the like to take advantage of it.
It's a good database, updated monthly and has voice alerts for different types of camera (Gatso, mobile, specs, temporary etc)

I run a TTG 500 and a Road angel and the pocketGPS database is at least as good as the RA, if not better.

My RA2 has some mobile sites as standard - guess it's a compilation of users own stored sites i.e. when they get enough at the same location they include it in the downloadable database.

Having used a police spec lasergun at a trackday last month, it's very hard to tell if it's being jammed. If it's being used handheld it's very easy to not get a reading straight away even without a jammer, and by then you'll have slowed up and switched the jammer off, and blokey will get a reading and blame it on his wonky arm.
I'm told it's much easier on a tripod, but i've only ever seen Police with stop powers using them handheld, scameramen in vans use tripods but can't stop you on scene.
