Looking for advice here guys...

I'm about to buy one of these but aside from the remote control compatibility for the 500 there doesn't seem to be too much difference....

How useful have people found the remote? Do you really need to touch the unit much when you are driving?

Any other advice on the Tomtom range?

Thanks
Kev

The only differnce in the range is..

the 300 is uk only (supplied maps)
500 is uk only and blue tooth car kit
700 is Europe maps blue tooth and remote control..

I have a 500, top notch with the free speed camera data base from pocketgps.com

If you want to know anything tom tom let me know

Went through the same decision process a week ago, and got the 500.

I don't need the remote, and extra maps can be bought and downloaded later on if you need them (this will be true of the 300 too, I guess). My phone does link in to the 500, which could be handy - I can get traffic updates to show on it if I subscribe, and it's also an easy way of getting hands free on the phone (although I've not tried this yet, it does blue tooth up nicely, so it should work).

Oh - the 500's only £430-odd in Dixons at the moment, which may sway your decision.

I had exactly the same decision and ended up with the 500 as well. Mainly because I do not have a hands free kit in the car and this unit doubles up nicely with my Bluetooth phone - extremely handy for texts as well as it displays them on the larger TomTom screen.

Although the main reason I went for the 500 is that the 300 does not retain your destination when you loose gps signals e.g. through a tunnel. You have to re-enter it again when you reconnect to the satellite, I just figured that would be a right royal pain the ar$e so spent the extra and got the 500 which does retain the target setting.

Thanks for the info guys

I was swaying towards the 500 anyway but the signal loss/loss location will determine it now.

Although this new Tomtom ONE that is coming has more frequencies so apparently is unlikely to suffer problems of losing GPS - very confusing on what to get.

Suppose I will bite the bullet and just put up with the fact that something newer will come out
