Please excuse the numpty question.

I will soon be picking up a new to me car. I have always listened to music in my cars through the radio or CD's. My new car doesn't come with a CD player.
Am I right in thinking I can download music through say Amazon Music to my phone, plug my phone in via USB and play music this way without using data?
Thanks in advance.

Depends what the car is.
You might be lucky and it has CarPlay. Or be upgradeable to CarPlay. Or have a double din aperture so you can fit a CarPlay/android auto head unit.

How little data allowance do you have that can’t stream music?

It's a 2024 Focus.

I have never used my phone for music, bar a few YouTube videos every now and again.

As I am not a heavy phone user and normally connected to wifi I have 10gb of data per month.

If you use YouTube then you can download videos on WiFi. It may also allow an SD card.

Looking online a 2024 Focus should have CarPlay/android auto. If so you are golden - you can also use your favourite nav app with split screen if you want, as well as any number of music, podcast, audio book apps etc A quick google says that CarPlay has been standard on Focii since 2016 with sync 3 or sync 4 audio.

As to data - I’m on an unlimited package but usually use about 9gb a month and I’m always on my phone/streaming in the car.

Let us know how you get on.

Or get a relative to rip your CDs to audio files. The put those files on a large USB stick. Then plug the stick into the car. It would be like having all your CDs at once.

Yep, you got it! Just download songs on Amazon Music for offline use, then plug in via USB, and it should play fine without using data. Just make sure your car supports USB audio, some only charge the phone.

Why USB? Surely a 2024 Focus can stream music with bluetooth!
