Please can I have recommendations for a dash cam (just not Nextbase - I had an old model and it was completely unreliable).
I only need it to record, not to beep or do anything sophisticated.
There are some (e.g. Road angel ) on sale at the moment but I don't want another disappointment.
And can I trust Halfords or independent installers to hard wire it (the dealer charges a fortune)?

Thanks in advance.

Something like a Viofo A119 will suffice, unless you absolutely want to spend hundreds for a better sensor (i.e. Sony Starvis 2 for 4K 60fps) - in which case one of the single-channel A229 or A329 would be my choice

I've got A129 Pros from late 2020 in my cars, and not missed a beat. The only sound is when you turn it on (soft-wired into USB/12v socket which turns off with ignition) - and I don't use the parked mode, so don't need the hard-wire kit.

They seem to have become a bit more expensive than when I bought mine...but only by about 4 year's worth of inflation.

Used Garmin mini dashcams for years in various cars (front and back). Easy to fit and hardly noticeable. The App works fine too.

Thanks everyone, will check both. Never heard about Viofo before , TBH. Surprised to hear it worked well plugged into USB - something Nextbase stopped doing after a few days.

I have two:

Road Angel Halo Ultra and a BlackVue DR590X-1CH.

They run continuously, but I use them and connect to them so little that I cannot say anything about them. When I do connect, I am surprised that neither seems to be recording all the time, but the BlackVue appears to capture more, going by what was saved.

Nextbase seems to have better options now with the "smart" cameras. There are several models giving options that span from cheap to expensive. Don't rule out Nextbase, but I agree on the earlier pieces being junk. Watch out for subscription costs.

Had many expensive dashcams over the years but all I use now are Iiwey from Amazon, got one in each car so 5 in all of various types - well built, cheap and absolutely perfect reliability - highly recommended
