With the winter nights/mornings upon us and all sorts of potential issues ive dodged driving up to the NorthWest from South coast I've decided to think getting a dashcam.

Has anybody bought a dashcam for the Passat B8 that goes in front of the mirror discreetly?

I didn't realise but they can power off of the Rain sensor which is handy.

FitCamX seems to tout the most professional option with a website. They do Front and Back for 150 quid, the rear doesn't have instructions though so wondering

https://fitcamx.com/products/fitcamx-dash-cam-for-...

Wondering if anyone has cheaper options for Front and Back or if I bite the bullet.

Umm, dosn't appear to have any GPS in it and Speed reading.

Potential show stopper for insurance claims I'd say?

There are posts in the car electronics forum with recommendations might be worth looking them up.

I have a VIOFO A129 which regularly gets reviewed as one of the best. Ic can be mounted directly to the windscreen with a small footprint and in my cars BMW 3 series and Fiesta it's mostly hidden by the black dotted area of the screen from outside and completely hidden by the rear view mirror from the drivers seat. They do a duo which has a rear camera and also a GPS base.

Something like a thinkware camera is probably one of the least "dashcammy" dashcams. They are pretty discreet if fitted right.

Thanks, I've just found a Nextbase 322 for 35 quid used on eBay so will use this and work on getting the wiring discreet enough.

It's a shame the integrated one doesn't do the GPS functions others do.

Going to see what its like first and if I can get the A Pillar off, and If its a paint see if there are any options to power from the rain sensor.

They look very similar to the Oewitness ones: www.oewitness.com

Nationwide installation is available.

Thinking of one for my Smart EQ

They do sit nice and tidy but lack the GPS data.

I would worry my insurer wouldn't sniff at the dashcam as it would be recording speeds.
