I bought a 500 GO last week, and as mentioned elsewhere the manual is crap, and tells you nothing.
I admit Ive not installed the software yet, but I didnt see anything about updating the unit in the manual either.
I assume you can download the latest data online, right?
Two years ago, a two way street became a one way street locally, and its still recognized on the TomTom as being a two way street.

As for the mapping data... it's usual for it to be 2/3 years out of date... it takes that long to update these things.
Sat Nav is an AID, and should not replace your judgement. If you know a quicker / better route, then take it... the sat nav will locate the destination, but algorythms aren't always perfect.

The auto re-routing feature is there for the one-way street problem. Rather than flouting the law, just follow the signs and let the device re-route for you.
I have done this several times and suprisingly it comes up with another little road I didnt know about - which then gets you back on track. Its not brilliant, but it works....
As for the supposed turn-around on the M4 - well thats just plain daft.... its a maintenance road and obviously not a valid junction - been in the map data for years though!!!

I'll have a look at the website (but before I do, what can you download, and are downloads free) - I guess nav nav-templates arnt updated with the same urgency of new scamera locations. No matter, but despite its foibles, its a fantastic gadget! Podie, did you have yours when you went off hooning across europe by yourself?

Some downloads are free... some you have to pay for (don't pay for the camera stuff).
Yep, had the TTG (mine is now a "Classic"
) when I went round France and Spain (the missus came with)... although I did buy the extra antenna just in case... had no problems though.UKBob said:

The latest booklet is not much use except to get people to switch on and choose a first simple route. The 'Classic' manual was more informative but I always anded up searching for what I wanted to read, though after a while and with the version upgrade a few months ago, things become obvious anyway. Just takes some playtime on an 'as needed' basis.

If they carry on as before firmware upgrade will be free but new maps, when released, are chargeable, which I think is pretty much the same for all vendors. They are bought in items.

Depends what you mean by data ... are you talking firmware, maps (which will be on a long cycle release basis) or the more recently added 'services' such as funny voices or traffic info via a mobile link?

Yeah, I get a strange routing out of my village every time and the new maps seem not to be any different. It's no more than a niggle. I did report it last year but it didn't make the cut to be fixed I guess. There again even if they had fixed it this time they would need to chamge it agoan now as another new road has been constructed in the last few months ...
On the other hand another major new road locally is now included, so it won't think I am driving across fields any more!
Oh, and don't bother using any sat nav device in the centre of Nottingham should you ever visit. The road layouts and directions seem to be changed more frequently than a barman pulls pints. It's probably the same elsewhere as well.
I was driving through the fields the other day too, I suppose it can be expected.
So, updated maps need to be paid for, and are released only occasionally rather than weekly?
And where can you get funny voices? Is there much extra space on the card that comes with the 500 for extra data?
