I-Drive Upgrades - Has anyone got any experience?

So I just sold my G30 530d which had the most recent i-Drive setup to help find the purchase of a new business. I’ve replaced it with a 2008 650i which has the original CCC I-Drive setup. There are loads of options online to replace component’s and add in CarPlay, USB connectivity and DAB all of which I’m used to having. The question is are these systems any good? I don’t want to spend the best part of five hundred quid if they don’t work or are of poor quality.
