Afternoon all,

My problem - I drive a taxi with a passenger/driver intercom system. Up in the front with me is a single speaker, 65-75mm. The intercom system and amplifier are not accessible. I want to add an in-line amplifier, volume control (potentiometer?) and upgrade the speaker if possible, to allow a louder output so I can hear better and clearer. I am not concerned if the speaker doesn't fit the housing as it will be positioned in a new location.

So- it's 12v. And the current signal supplies a 3W 4ohms approx 65-75mm speaker (just one).

I have access to the supply cable to this speaker, and a close by live/ground. And a void to hide everything in.

I was about to order the following from CPC farnell-

Either-

2.5" Full Range Speaker Driver 4 Ohm, 5W
Order Code:
LS03713Manufacturer Part Number:
FR 7
Qty.1
(Inc. Vat): £4.34

OR

2.3" Full Range Speaker Driver, 4 Ohm, 10W RMS
Order Code:
LS04830Manufacturer Part Number:
FR 58 - 4 OHM
Qty.1
(Inc. Vat): £7.30

AND

Universal 12W Amplifier Module
Order Code:
HK01123Manufacturer Part Number:
M032N
Qty.1
(Inc. Vat): £8.95

OR

7W Mono Audio Amplifier Module
Order Code:
HK01796Manufacturer Part Number:
WMAH114
Qty.1
(Inc. Vat): £7.40

Could you help advise which are the correct components to order out of the above (or a better suggestion)? Also, which potentiometer would be compatible too. I don't mind either a knob or slide solution. The 7w mono audio amp in its tech download suggests a 47k ohm Log potentiometer, but I'm out my depth at this point.

My aim is a solution where-by I can tap into existing speaker signal and make it a little more (25%-50% ideally) louder. I hope this makes sense!

I really appreciate any help you can offer.

Deano
