Does anyone know whether a comprehensive and up-to-date POI database with Shell or Shell Optimax garages? I have found a couple but they seem to have been compiled ages ago and only cover a relatively small part of the country.

What is this Optimax, kind of unleaded I think? and if it is, what difference does it make to the cars performance I wonder, just thought I would ask.

Is it for specific cars, like we used to have 4 star and 3 star etc. Thanks

Its a slightly higher octane unleaded than your average super unleaded (98.something vs 97).

Have you tried checkpoint?

(I guess you're using a tomtom device of some kind)

try this web site
www.poihandler.com

you have to register (free) but they have various POI's for all sorts of countries(good for the Le Man run) available in the POI download section.

There is a Shell POI for the UK (can't comment as have not used it)...

Obviously these have been created by people and uploaded so are not always 100% but the other ones i have tried so far have been quite good...

Thanks for your feedback. I am using a NavMan 520. I have tried the poihandler site, but the poi file is nowhere near comprehensive and very old. I'll keep looking, but I am beginning to think that no such thing exists as yet.

I use TOM TOM on an Ipaq with checkPOInt. and they do have a shell and an optimax POI list its been workign well for me not sure if it got all of them yet but it seems comprehensive enough..

I find checkPOInt a great system well worth trying

I found the same when I downloaded the Shell POI. The generic petrol stations POI often lists the petrol brand.

BTW, the redlight district POI is crap. Reckons the nearest one to me is 120 miles away.~snigger~
