Kenwood DNX7190DABS Steering Wheel Adapter
Discussion
3 years ago I bought this head unit, and I’m finally getting round to installing it. Reading the manual it says “to use the steering wheel remote control feature, you need to use an exclusive remote adapter (not supplied) matched to your car” with a diagram of which wire to connect the adapter to. I bought the adapter and the wire on the adapter connects to the harness for the head unit. On the next page of the manual it shows a diagram of the ports on the back, and listed number 12 is a port for the steering remote harness. It says “Connect to the vehicle’s steering remote harness. Contact your local Kenwood dealer for details.”. I’m wondering if they’re both the same thing, and if they are does it matter if I don’t connect the port?
I used Connects2 stuff when fitting a Kenwood HU to Mrs D's S2000, and it was very straight forward. I bought it from one of the online ICE websites, they had a tool to help pick what you needed from the Connects2 range. The built in control pod next to the steering wheel works as it should, which is really critical when the HU is a foot away from your left hand
I seem to recall I had to solder two wires together between the Kenwood supplied cable and the Connects2 cable prior to fitting due to wanting to use the Bluetooth telephony and a separate microphone fitted to the A-pillar, but that was covered by the instructions rather than me being an electronics whizz at modifying things.
