Repurposing aftermarket reverse camera
Discussion
Hi,
I have a vehicle with an aftermarket reverse camera (Panasonic). I am not completely uncommon with car wiring and have done work myself in the past.
However, this one has me a bit stumped!
I do not believe the camera is wired to the reverse light, instead the car had an original Panasonic headunit which I think was connected to canbus with a converter that then placed a reverse output signal to the camera. I am now trying to replace this unit and keep the camera but I am slightly confused on how I should get through this predicament.
I have a video in, earth in and a red ACC in.
If I try connect this red ACC to reverse power output will this help fix the issue?

Depending on the car it may not like the additional electrical load attached to the 12V supply to the reverse bulb and throw up an error.
How do you propose to power the monitor or tell it that the car is in reverse?
A couple of years ago I installed an Xtrons Android head unit in a 2005 BMW and installed a reversing camera. I believe the head unit had a switched 12V supply for the reversing camera that was powered when the can bus interface told the head unit the car was in reverse. So ran a separate 12V wire to the camera along with the video cable. Not sure powering the camera all the time the car is being used will do wonders for its lifespan.

I would be worried about the possibility that that when/assuming we get the AutoSpa method that we will find that it can't be applied to every extraordinary Volt. I accept they are speaking with the vendor tech fellow and providing an exceptional code well defined for the Volt being reconstructed. I in all actuality do realize they demand the VIN number of your Volt and maintain that the tech should call before they enter the VIN into TIS2WEB. I'm starting to contemplate whether our vehicle doesn't have the reinforcement camera design, then that arrangement may not be accessible except if GM supplies it??
