Help needed amp install
Discussion
This isn't my first rodeo when it comes to wiring in amps, I've done plenty over the years but first time I've ever had this problem and I'm completely stumped.
I'm trying to install a sub and amp into the boot of my vw caravelle (t5 van)
I've ran all the wires and started chasing them in and hooked up the amp. No power. OK so try bridging the rem wire to the 12v to see if it will then power up. Nothing still.
Next out comes the electrical tester and this is where it starts getting tricky, the 12v is dead all the way to the boot, so there must be a break somewhere as it's live at battery and fuse is OK.
Running the earth from the battery and testing the 12v it's live at the passenger door. Pur the earth to a seat bolt amd try a few feet back on the 12v. dead. Obviously a break in the wire someehere. Well the wires fine.
Must be an earth fault then, run an earth from the battery and test the 12v all the way to the boot.
12v is live at the amp.
So I set out trying to find a decent ground, find a nice bit of exposed metal near the light cluster and nothing, except when I accidently touch the remote wire with the tester instead of the 12v and get continuity which means the ground works.
So how on the hell can the 12v be live all the way to the boot, rem live, remote to earth works but 12v to earth doesn't.
Rem wire is taken from the headinit.
Is it possible to have different ground zones?
Please help before I give up and cut all wires and go back to standard

Well I found the problem.... I'm a complete tit and wired the 12v wire to the negative battery terminal, in such an amateurish way I didn't even bother checking.
The reason the tester worked when I ran a lead back to the boot was because the lead I'd connected thinking was negative was infact live.
I'm very ashamed and think I will never touch another car again...
To make matters worse my cruise control has also stopped working so i've either fried something trying to run grounds live or I've knocked something behind the headunit.
