Xtrons Double Din Unit
Discussion
I’ve just bought an old 2007 VW Touareg. It’s got no Bluetooth for hands free calling which is a good excuse for upgrading the stereo unit.
I’ve been looking at this X Trons unit:

My view of these aftermarket is that the user interface is poor and the whole thing is a bit clunky. This seems to have a good spec so have things moved on such that these things are actually useable. Is the touch screen laggy? Is the Apple CarPlay any good?
Any one got one and have any experiences?
Thanks in advance!

I put a Xtrons unit into a 2005 X5 and am disappointed. Had I known the outcome I would not have done it.
- the unit starts up in a random audio mode, sometimes radio, sometimes SD card and sometimes Bluetooth. And every now and again in video mode.
- apple car play is unreliable to the point I have stopped trying
- the screen resolution is incredibly low - some apps don’t display properly because they need a taller screen. Admittedly I should have noticed this before buying
- to tether the unit to my iPhone I have to enable the personal hotspot manually on the iPhone every time even though it’s turned on in the settings menu. Not sure if this is an Xtrons/Android or iOS issue but it’s a PITA. And even then the radio doesn’t always connect; I have to go into the Xtrons’ Wi-Fi setting and select the phone’s Wi-Fi hotspot.
- for better or worse the Android version is orphaned so little to no chance of solving the issues. And Xtrons doesn’t want to know.
I should have left well enough alone. Hey ho.

Had Xtrons in my Renault traffic van. Moved it from 2 vans now.
Been Brilliant never had any problems with it. Attached the Free view package to it so has tv as well. I run Waze on it, linked it to my factory reverse camera.
Hand on heart I'd buy another one tomorrow.
