I’m out of touch in the audio world these days so who makes a decent set of speakers now?
I’m just looking to replace some front oem 16.5 cm jobs in a Skoda Fabia.
Currently a separate woofer/tweeter arrangement but could just put in a set of 2 ways etc if needed for less hassle.
Has a reasonable Sony head unit driving them.
Budget £100 maximum.

I don't think you'll find much has changed over the years. £100 is always going to be a hard-fought price point with products from all the manufacturers.
I like Focal myself, eg these at that point, but there are loads of options - a few more here. Not sure I'd choose the "PowerBass" ones, but all the rest will likely be fine. I think I'd be tempted to stretch an extra £1.99 for the RFs - their Prime series always seems to perform well.

Don't forget to budget for mounting rings, and a decent pile of deadening mat to load the inside of the external door skins, and seal/load as much of the internal skin as you can:

Mine's a Rapid, but it's much the same job.

This will have more positive effect on the sound quality than the exact speakers you buy.

I'd spend £100 on sound deadening and proper installation of the stock speakers, rather than £100 on a new speakers.

Another thumbs up for Focal
I have Focal Access 3 way speakers in mine and cant fault them. Had to make custom fibreglass pods to house them though.

As has been said, do not skimp on properly sound deadening the door. Can make a world of difference
