Extend antenna base.. Give me some inspiration!...
Discussion
Right, bear with me. One of my cars has factory fit sharkfin dab (+FM, GPS) antenna. It's reception is crap where I live (northern Scotland) . Tried a replacement, just the same. Tried a whip type, 10 inch, perfect. However it wasn't installed on the roof, just held it out the window for a test.
Base of old and new type look like this...
Problem is all replacement aerials I can find have a threaded stud length of about 20/30mm.
I need about 60mm as my car has a glass panoramic roof that the stud passes though, rather than just a metal roof skin as most cars have. Using the aerial as pictured, the stud isn't long enough to engage the thread of the large nut.
Any ideas how I can adapt it to fit?
Hopefully this makes sense, I'll draw a diagram in the morning!

Pull the cables upwards along the slot to the base, use a tap to cut a thread inside the threaded tube, visit a person with a lathe and have a tube made that will screw into the hole you have tapped, obviously have the tubes outer diameter turned and threaded to the size of the original
