Double din with carplay and volume knob?
Discussion
Looking for a double din, with car-play however due to location, my clumsy fingers and lack of steering wheel control i want one with a volume knob.
Found the Sony XAV-AX1005KIT but the reviews say it doesn’t have an off button!
Dab would be nice, as would a rear camera option, will also be running a sub and amp eventually so rca out would be handy.
Finally not too blingy!

We have the Sony unit, because my other half wanted a volume knob and that was the only ACP unit we could find with one. Found the Sony XAV-AX1005KIT but the reviews say it doesn’t have an off button!

I have to say, it's rubbish and doesn't come close to the Pioneer I had in my other car in terms of functionality or, more importantly sound quality. It doesn't have a capacitive touch screen, the type you'd be used to on iPads and modern smart phones. It's the cheaper 'resistive' type of screen, which feels awful to use and doesn't react as well and it's a soft spongy surface (if that makes sense). It also, doesn't have a rear USB (like many others do) which annoyed me, so you'll always have a cable dangling out of the front fascia. Essentially, it's crap!
We took it out, my Dad stuck it in his camper van for a few months and now it's back in it's box. I can't see it being used again.
Something like this seems to cover all the bases. Decent reviews too.

Maybe being a bit of a brand snob but buying names like that always gets me nervous - also some very mixed reviews!Deal: Wireless Carplay DAB+ Radio
Why is everything touch screen these days
I know this doesn't have a volume knob on it, but I have one of these in the Civic - JVC - KWM560BT. It is branded JVC but it is a Kenwood headunit, so the quality is really good. It has CarPlay and AndroidAuto, I think it had an RCA at the back and a USB connection in the same place (I just replaced my cig lighter with a USB adaptor and connected it up to that).
It has a capacitance screen as mentioned before (like any smartphone) so can use gesture control for volume and track selection - just move your finger anywhere on the screen in a circle for volume, or flick left / right to change the track. Maybe not as good as a knob, but you don't need to look at it to use it. It's got bluetooth and it has an off button too, and Halfrauds stock it so you can have a play in store.

ETA: Also has DAB and an option to add a rear view camera as well, full spec available at the link.

Pioneer AVH-Z2200BT
I had seen the pioneer with the buttons, also found a kenwood and alpine with proper buttons.
The appeal of some of the others is they are a very short unit which might help me with the install?
I should have the car in the next few weeks so will be getting serious about sorting this out!

I’ve never rally thought about it, but my Pioneer CarPlay unit doesn’t have an off button either, it just toggles with the ignition. I just got used to it, I suppose.Found the Sony XAV-AX1005KIT but the reviews say it doesn’t have an off button!
The display can be turned off, but the unit is on whenever the ignition if on. Are there any CarPlay units that have a proper off button?

With my Pioneer unit (SPH-DA250DAB) you have to press and hold the button that looks like the Windows logo to turn it off.The display can be turned off, but the unit is on whenever the ignition if on. Are there any CarPlay units that have a proper off button?

If you ignore the OP's requirement for CarPlay, then yes.beanoir78 said:

Hello! Following your, errr… less than glowing review this might seem an odd request but my thread (here: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... may give some background! Would you be interested in ‘moving on’ your Sony unit? I tried to PM but doesn’t seem like you accept them.I have to say, it's rubbish and doesn't come close to the Pioneer I had in my other car in terms of functionality or, more importantly sound quality. Do these units have wireless CarPlay instead, or is the only option the cable at the front and the phone (presumably) mounted on the dash?
