How to Choose the Right Fabric for Your Sewing Project
Fabric plays an essential role in producing aesthetically high-quality sewing projects. When selecting the fabric, make sure to check its weight, stretch, and drape.
Fabric weight tells you whether it's light or heavy, the drape tells you about the flow of the fabric, and the stretch determines the degree of flexibility your sewing item will have. Nevertheless, easy on the outlook, it takes a lot of time and practice to choose the suitable fabric for your sewing projects.
With the basics, however, you can master the art quickly. Read through the guide, and you'll become a pro at selecting quality fabrics.

Consider the following five steps before fabric shopping for your sewing project.
Sewing Project
The first step is to define your sewing project. Do thorough research and look for patterns, design tutorials, and guides to simplify the execution. It's important to note here that this process calls for experimentation before you master perfection.
Trend Awareness
Explore clothing stores and observe the ready-made clothes section for more insights and a better understanding. Doing so will tell you about the trending fabric. This step will help you examine the fabric's appearance, quality, and texture and keep your final project in trend.
Drape
Assess the drape of the fabric thoroughly.
While in the fabric store, unroll a portion of the fabric to assess its drape. The way a cloth hangs affects how the item will look in the end. Learn how various fabrics, such as silk and linen, fall when draping.

Color Selection
Colors may seem different in stores due to the illumination than in daylight. To view the fabric's actual color, hold it up to a window. Furthermore, consider how the fabric matches your skin tone because materials that are too similar to your skin tone may not have enough vibrancy when made into clothing.
Stretch Testing
To test the fabric's elasticity, gently stretch it, paying particular attention to the diagonal. Recognize the fabric's stretch properties and how they relate to your stitching ability. Managing fabrics with little stretch may be more simple, especially for novices. Consider how the fabric's qualities will improve the design of your project and fit your body type.
Conclusion
It's time to purchase after carefully assessing the fabric's weight, drape, stretch, and color. Buy enough fabric for your sewing project. A general thumb rule is to buy 2 to 3 meters (about 2.5 yards) of fabric while shopping. Even if you need clarification on the final design, this gives your project flexibility. This comprehensive guide ensures you buy the suitable material for your sewing project.

I would avoid IIWey on Amazon. Heavily promoted there but I find it very difficult to access the files on the SD card and it seems to require continual formatting.
In hindsight I wish I had bought a Nextbase or a Garmin with mobile app connectivity so that I don't have to faff about with downloading from an SD card.
