No bass atall. Amp removed? speakers blown?
Discussion
I know very little about car stereos so there are no stupid suggestions!
My 2006 E46 (330i, convertible) is fitted with the factory stereo.
In order to make the sound normal, even for speech radio, you need the bass set on full and the treble down to about a quarter. I realise the car is getting on but I have owned lots of cars of similar quality and similar age and they were all much better.
There isn't the sort of distortion I'd associate with failing speakers. Just a lack of bass.
There are disconnected speaker wires in the boot. Is it possible that something was disconnected in the system when a sub woofer was fitted and not reconnected when it was removed?
What would you do?
Thanks

Yes, very possible a sub has been fitted and then removed without caring about the sound for the next owner. Possibly along with high-pass filters on the other speakers to balance the sound.
It's very hard to remotely diagnose without having a dig around; all I can really add is that I ran an '06 320 'vert over this summer, and I was reasonably impressed with the stereo for a factory fit, so your car is definitely not right...

I would contact these guys:

There are well documented issues so might just be a bad unit, either that, or buy a replacement unit off eBay and test fit it if it's cheap enough it might be worthwhile.
