Not the most PH of cars, I know, but recently downsized the family chariot to a 2014 Mazda 3. It is the 165bhp petrol model so perhaps not completely lame;) Actually quite a decent drive. And it averages 42mpg, more than double what my old e30 325i could manage back in the day, for about the same power and performance. Admittedly nothing like as much character.

Anyhoo, I digress. I'd like to be able to display Waze/google maps on the built in screen. Do I need Android Auto, or something else?

The 2014 model doesn't support AA. Main dealer will apparently do an upgrade for 300 quid but is that what I need, and if so is is there an easy DIY way to do it?

As one more used to running older motors with clockwork dials and switches rather than space age laser display screens I am clueless about all this in car tech so any help much appreciated!

Personally I would pay Mazda to do it. I believe I’ve read that as part of it they also update all your stereo related firmware to the latest version aswell as installing the module. Sure someone on a mag had a long termer, had it retrofitted and they even did a firmware update to the Bose stereo module too.

Waze is particularly fickle on car head units especially when hot spotting, if the main dealer is confident it WILL work then I'd pay them to be honest.

For 300 I’d let them do it

I’d ask to test drive a car with it first mind

Tks chaps.

Interesting info 're waze being glitchy as I use that a lot. Would be peeved if I dropped 300 quid and waze didn't work v well.

There are some videos of DIY software upgrades on YT, but not sure I want to go that way. Bricking an old phone while fiddling with it is one thing, bricking the car would be quite another;)
