Hi folks,

Looking at a device that tells me where speed camera's are etc*.

I like the look of the Saphe device as it's pretty simple to set up and use and also that it's a 'standalone' alert device, even though it's tethered to your phone.

Plenty has been said about Waze and I guess it beats the Saphe for 'live' mobile camera detections due to the huge amount of users.

The AmiGo app - looks pretty decent but haven't seen much feedback about it.

Any thoughts / comments on the above would be appreciated, especially from any Saphe users out there.

Cheers,

Ian B

I've got a Saphe. I went for the Saphe Drive Mini as it has a little screen in addition to the beeps. Once its set up, it works brilliantly, automatically waking up and connecting as I drive off, without having to touch my phone (I have an Android smartphone, I can't comment on iPhone). As a device, it is brilliant.

The main drawback about Saphe is the mobile camera alert function as it relies on user reports, and there are not as many users as Waze. It would be nice if Saphe could add a database of potential mobile camera locations, or at least add it as an option that we can turn on or off.

The reason I chose Waze is because I like to leave my phone in my pocket, I don't like mounting my phone in the car.

Bit of thread revival… but any more recent experiences of any of these options from anyone?

Waze is still Ace. Saphe is a bit meh, it's got good intentions but I am not sure it has a big user base, I wish they could tap into the Waze database somehow, even if it were a subscription. I like the fact it's standalone and shows you your average speed but I don't trust it enough for mobile cameras due to the lack of users.

I use both Saphe and Amigo.

Saphe - use the Saphe gadget that stays in the car, so is always on whenever I drive. Knows where the fixed cameras are, rarely see a mobile camera where I drive so can't tell if really good for those.

Amigo - love this app, use it when going on longer drives or unfamiliar roads, Gives avg speed and good visible warning on phone as well as audible warning. Does alert to mobile vans, but seems to use quite a large margin of error, ie warns of mobile camera, but sometimes I only see it 5 miles later. You have to get used to keeping alert for quite some time after the emobile warning goes off.

Waze - never got on with tthe interface, use google maps with 'floating' Amigo mini display over the top.

Forget mobile camera's... it (Saphe) was a bit useless even with fixed cameras.

Driving to Eurotunnel from NW London and it seemed to think there was still a 50 limit on the M20 where the roadworks used to be (and aren't any more) and didn't alert to any cameras on the new speed limited section just before Jct 11a where there's a 50 limit now and segregated lanes for HGVs even though its sign posted as average speed cameras.

So rather unimpressed. Love the idea and the device but that's pretty useless if it can't even get that right.
