I'm replacing the stereo in Mrs D's S2000. The OEM head unit is a standard single-DIN, with L-brackets screwed to the side with M5 screws.

The replacement head-unit (JVC) has holes in the correct place to fit these brackets. The manual asks for 5mm diameter screws. Unfortunately the thread doesn't appear to be the same as the M5 screws taken from the OEM head unit. I suspect the thread is coarser, and it's actually just a single thread, similar to what a self-tapping sheet metal screw leaves behind.

To save me buying 10 different types, does anyone know what size/thread screws I need? JVC and Kenwood are the same company these days so if you know what Kenwood needs that could be the same for JVC.

The ISO cage is a non-starter; apparently on S2000s these will simply fly out if you hit any bumps.

Ah, I've just found an online version of the manual that states "self tapping screw type, 5mm diameter".

Off to see if I can find some of those...

Final update: success. I remembered that PC fans are often fitted with coarse thread screws that are self tapping for sheet metal and plastic. I pulled a fan out of spares box and sure enough, the screws it came with were perfect for fitting the side brackets. Maybe that will help someone else in the same predicament.
