Hi all

I want to hard wire my dashcam. But my car doesn't appear to have any ignition lives as it's full canbus. How do people get around this?

Thanks

Your car will have lots of ignition lives.

It actually has none, according to the owners club, audio fitters, accessory fitters and others.

Few examples of switched live in a canbus car

Stereo, cigarette lighter, charger ports, any incandescent bulb, power to fuel pump etc

If you want a tidy job go to the fuse box and you can place a 'piggyback' fuse holder in and run fly leads to the camera.

Good luck.

NB

Dont try to chop into any of the wires in your rearview mirror, you wont find 12v but you could make a balls of sensor readings for wipers/lights etc

I've personally checked cigarette lighter and it's permanent live.

Stereo doesn't have an ignition live either as that can be operated with the keys out of the car. It's CAN triggered by unlocking.

What car is it, exactly?

You can get CAN modules for this very purpose:

https://www.canm8.com/can-bus-interfaces/power-con...

However there will be other power sources available that are switched - as said previously within the fusebox.

Run a wire to the fusebox.

With 100% certainty there will be in ignition live circiut there. That's what I did with my dsshcam.

What car you got?

I do quite a lot of work with vehicle electronics and CAN and have never seen anything without an ignition live.

What car is it?

To be honest, using a "CAN live" rather than ignition live would probably be fine anyway. It will activate when you unlock and then switch off a few mins after locking.
