Help needed, I know nothing about car stereos..........still call it the wireless......problem

Wife has a 2011 golf match diesel (1968cc) with self parking, steering wheel controls, sat nav etc.

I want to change the double din radio for one with DAB, reverse camera, sat nav, bluetooth iphone connection etc

question 1) Does it matter what sort I buy, will they all connect up to steering wheel controls

question 2) will I need a new antenna for DAB

question 3) self parking info comes up on a separate screen on the dash, so now I think of it, it shouldn't make a difference

I don't want to spend a fortune probably £250 at most, any suggestions as to make model and maybe an installer near Exeter

You're looking at topside of £100 just for the necessary fascia adapter and wiring harness that keeps your steering wheel controls. I think with that list of requirements you may need to significantly revise the budget upwards.

£150 isn't going to buy you a head unit that does everything you want it to unless you get a cheap Chinese Android one from eBay / Amazon. They're cheap for a very good reason.

a 2011 Golf Match should have DAB as standard, It should have an RCD510 in it which has DAB. If it doesnt then the easiest thing to do would be buy an RCD510 and DAB antennae

Thank you for that...it doesn't have DAB, I have found an RCD on ebay for £160 with DAB , will the satnav on it need updating or should it be plug and play

We fitted an RCD330 to my wife's Golf (2013 car) which had self parking. Still works fine. I would recommend one, but they don't have DAB. Didn't worry us for less than £200 as we just use radio apps instead.

Alpine and Kenwood both do very nice units which do everything, but they are the thick end of £1k.

I installed a cheap Android unit on our old MK6 and it was fine. I think the car had self parking but we never used it, so can’t tell if it worked after the install.

I tend to look at this type of head unit like a mobile phone, where performance is the most important thing. Buy slow and replace sooner, buy fast and replace later. You can compare the specs of the processors / memory on eBay.

The other reason I like the Chinese head units is they can look very OEM. Important to me and not something a Pioneer/Sony unit would ever be able to do.
