I had a hardwire kit for my dash cam that is supposed to have to something to cut the power when the battery voltage gets too low to stop the battery from going flat. However it did not work at all so we had to remember to unplug the camera every time we parked at home, we forgot to do it a few times and it killed the battery.

I was looking at alternative brands but noticed in the reviews that people had tested the battery voltage with a volt meter and it was not cutting power to the camera when it went below the advertised threshold.

I could solve this by having it connected to a socket that only comes on with the engine, but I would like the camera connected to a constant power source so it has parking protection when it is away from the home. A solution I thought of would be a camera with a long enough battery life that it could just stay on for a few hours, do these exist? From my research even the best cameras only have 30 mins of power on the battery.

Anyone know of any trustworthy brands that sell hardwire kits that actually cut the power when they need to?
