How to manage a large MP3 collection?
Discussion
Hi all
Like many, I've been collecting music for years. It's all in MP3 format. I used to burn it to CDs, then moved onto flash drives a few years ago. I organised music into folders and all was well.
Now in 2021 I have a semi-modern infotainment system, BMW i-Drive in an E92 M3. And there is chaos. Firstly, some of my MP3s have data tags on them for artist, album, genre etc. Secondly, some of these tags are wrong, or spammy (like a web address in the genre). Navigating through these in i-Drive is a pain in the backside. Thirdly, tracks often don't play in the correct order within an album. They seem to be played alphabetically rather than as the artist intended.
My options seem to be:
1) Find a PC program to batch remove all the tags from all the MP3s and then manually re-add them correctly
2) Find a website or app to populate the tags correctly? Is this a thing?
3) Go back to Minidisc, which never hurt me
4) Enjoy V8 soundtrack instead

When I sorted out my tagging issues on my collection I used https://www.mediamonkey.com/ as it would pop off to the internet and get the correct tags and assign them. This was a few years ago now and it may not work anymore. It took a very long time to do though. I have not had to retag any downloads for years though.
