Apologies in advance if in the wrong section.

I have a 2006 car with no aux / bluetooth / usb. Only has a radio/ cd player / 12v cigarette lighter.

How can i play music from an ipod (3.5mm jack, no bluetooth) to the car?

Any suggestions on products to buy?

thanks

iPod FM transmitter. You can then receive your iPod tunes through the car radio.

They are a bugger if you drive long distances, though, because when you set it up, you tune to an unused frequency, and as you drive around, you'll find local radio stations and so on use that same frequency, and they interfere with your iPod.

Yes, some factory head units can have a simple box plugged into them to give this capability.

Bear in mind there can be several varieties of head unit for a given car, you may need the exact model number for the head unit.

You could try something like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/VicTsing-Transmitter-Blue...

Blutooth to FM transmitter.

Connect the phone to the transmitter, tune your radio to the same FM frequency as the transmitter.

They're not perfect of course and you might need to change your frequency from time to time if it clashes with an actual radio transmission. Also, the sound will have the same kind of quality as FM radio. But if thats OK for you, then give it a whirl.

I will say. If your car had an option for a CD-Changer (like a 6 disc changer in the boot for instance), then you can often find Blutooth adapters for these as well. My old Volvo S60 had a CD changer in the boot and you could just unplug the connector and plug it into this blutooth module and it would work via the CD input.

Wrong thread I think, but I believe an FM transmitter is what you're after. A lot of them double as USB chargers since then plug straight into the 12v socket in your car. They're not that expensive either.

Yep, around that time I'd fit CD changer adaptors to my cars so I could plug an iPod (and later iPhone) in.

Denison were good at the time and still make all the various gateways to integrate just about anything into older car stereos. Talk to a local car audio place, this is straightforward stuff to them and they tend to be better than most at removing trim to get to what they need.

Had an iPod FM transmitter way back, ended up being relegated to hire/holiday duties. Unless you live in the middle of nowhere the FM band is way too busy for them to work properly.

Depending on how much you want to spend, a new head unit is not expensive. Could have one with Android Auto/ Apple Carplay and be up to date with the latest ICE.

Or, FM radio adapter if you want to be old school!

Fords from the 2006 era have the aux input pins on the back of the head unit. You need to buy a cable with the correct socket to plug into the head unit and run a cable out.

I bought one for a couple of quid from Ebay our 56 reg Fiesta, for use with a plug-in DAB.

Alternatively, buy a double DIN head unit with Android etc.

I had one of these in my old smoker.

They are actually pretty good.

I stuck the aerial / transmitter on the back window and took power from the boot 12v (A4 Avant). Easy enough to do it hardwired.

Control unit needs no wires or external power.

You can also use it for bluetooth calls and streaming.

Judging by OP's post history, its a 2006 Vantage.

So I think a new chinese android head unit is out of the question haha.

Appears to be old Volvo kit. There is Dension stuff that will work.

Examples of this being done. Seems fairly straight forward.

In my 04 mx5 I use a bluetooth to FM transmitter and it works. Could be better but connects automatically and plays the music I want so it doesn't fuss me. Although I see you want to use aux not bluetooth, but I'm sure there is something around similar to that.

As said, Bluetooth transmitter but get one with a 3.5 jack. My old one had one. About £10 on Amazon

haha very eagle eyed of you..

Yes i should've said, it's a 2006 Aston Martin Vantage so no option of changing the headunit

Thanks for these links i'll take a look.

I've tried an FM - cigarette lighter adapter but the brilliant design of the cigarette lighter is an angle and the plug in gadget is too bulky to fit in the small gap

Yes, I've got one and they are quite good - in a cassette player. Bit of a tight fit in the OP's CD player though!

i should also clarify, my ipod doesn't have bluetooth (i'm oldschool)

all the fm transmitters seem to be too big and square for the limited space i have in the cigarette lighter area frown

I don't really like FM transmitters, but if you do want to use one, it doesn't have to go in the lighter socket. You can just buy a lighter socket on a lead to wire into any appropriate 12v source and site it where you want.

A parrot kit should fit in between the ISO adaptor on the rear of the stereo and provide Bluetooth audio straight into the speakers. It has an in built amplifier which is quite decent too. Worked on several cars I have owned previously but not tried it on an Aston though.......
